Waukesha, Wis. (April 13, 2023) – Carroll University’s Department of Education and Human Services will offer a new Community Counseling Center during the summer of 2023 as a free resource to the public.

The Community Counseling Center will provide free, high-quality behavioral health counseling and therapy services to community members and Carroll students. The center is staffed by faculty and trainees from Carroll’s Behavioral Health Psychology program. All trainees are supervised by licensed psychologists who are faculty members of the BHP program.  Services are provided free of charge and do not require the use of insurance.

“Stewardship and the care of our fellow human beings is an essential element within the Carroll University ethos,” said President Cindy Gnadinger. “We are proud to offer this vital resource as we work to help reduce barriers to mental health services in the Waukesha community.”

According to a 2022 report by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, there are 440 people for each mental health provider in the state. Additionally, the Office of Children’s Mental Health 2022 Annual Report indicates about one-third of children in Wisconsin experience feelings of sadness and hopelessness every day, a 10 percent increase over the last decade. The state is also seeing record high rates of substance abuse, with more than 1,500 Wisconsites having lost their life to overdose in 2020.

The Community Counseling Center is committed to providing high quality mental health services to our diverse community and welcomes clients of all backgrounds.
The Center will be located in the Wisconsin Avenue building (237 Wisconsin Avenue, Waukesha, Wis. 53186). Screening appointments begin on May 1, and the Center will be open for formal intake and counseling sessions on Tuesday, May 16 through Aug. 25, 2023. The Center hours will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
