FIRST FORWARD PASS
The first legal forward pass in a football game ever happened at Carroll—in 1906! Thrown by the quarterback from the other team, it may or may not have been intercepted by the mighty Pioneers.
SOCCER APPEARS AT CARROLL
In 1866, only one year after the end of the American Civil War, the first organized soccer match ever played in the United States took place here, at Carroll.

When the CCIW announced in late July that fall sports competitions at its member campuses were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it might have seemed the Carroll athletic program would simply shut down for the fall semester.
Carroll University Athletics is expanding to 23 athletic programs with the addition of women's bowling. The Pioneer program will remain with the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, as the conference recently announced the sponsorship of the new program.
