IDA Accreditted Plus Program
Carroll University’s Dyslexia Interventionist program is designed to prepare educators with the specialized knowledge and practical tools needed to effectively support students with or at risk for dyslexia. Grounded in a structured literacy approach, the program delivers intensive training that empowers educators to provide targeted, research-based interventions for students who need them most. Carroll is proud to hold “Accreditation Plus” status from the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), a distinction that reflects the rigor and quality of our program.
Program Structure & Requirements
The Dyslexia Interventionist program is offered fully online, providing flexibility for working educators. It requires five additional credits for students enrolled in Carroll’s Reading Teacher (316) program and nine credits for those pursuing the Dyslexia Interventionist Certificate as a standalone credential. The program consists of the following three courses:
- Dyslexia Intervention within Tier III Settings
Explore the theoretical foundations of dyslexia, key assessment tools, and principles of intensive intervention. By the end of this course, students will be prepared to begin their supervised practicum experiences.
- Practicum in Structured Literacy I
Begin the first 25 hours of intensive, one-on-one intervention with a student who has or is at risk for dyslexia. This course emphasizes diagnostic assessment, progress monitoring, and introduces data-based individualization. Support is provided by an expert practicum supervisor.
- Practicum in Structured Literacy II
Complete the second 25 hours of intensive intervention, continuing work with a student under expert supervision. This course culminates in a formal practicum report, documenting both student growth and your development as a dyslexia interventionist.
