Dementia Care Program

The Dementia Capable Care Certification will give students the knowledge and skills needed to enable those who are living with dementia to engage in meaningful activities at their best ability and to reduce the frequency and severity of distressing behaviors.  Students will establish a common understanding, philosophy, and framework that the interdisciplinary team can use to facilitate positive outcomes at their future workplace.  The certification is good for two years.  Students will participate in a virtual dementia simulation experience to understand a day in the life of a patient with dementia.  This “experience” will develop skills of empathy, compassion, and understanding and allow for interprofessional practice for the treatment of patients with dementia through a case study.  This knowledge will provide a solid foundation for students in clinical practice both fieldwork and post-graduation.
