Fellow and Mentor Expectations

Humanities Center Fellow Qualifications

  • HCFs can be any undergraduate in any major!
  • Fellows should have taken the course before (or the equivalent) and received a B or better.
  • Fellows can work in any course but most typically have served in H1, P1, S1 or F2 courses.

Humanities Center Fellow Duties

Fellows will:
  • Enroll in a 4 unit independent study with lead instructor. Student and instructor will be expected to meet regularly to discuss lesson plans, teaching philosophy, appropriate pedagogy-focused readings, and HCF teaching experiences.
  • Attend every class session and keep up with all course readings/assignments.
  • Directly teach at one week of content-based material. 
  • Coach students in writing and study strategies for the course and field.
  • Hold regular office hours.

Faculty Mentor Duties

Mentors will:
  • Create syllabus for 4 unit independent study with HCF.
  • Select and discuss an array of appropriate pedagogy-focused readings.
  • Guide and grade the HCF throughout the teaching process.
