Carroll University’s Structured Literacy/Dyslexia Interventionist Program is 100% online to meet working professionals’ needs and schedules. The program is designed for individuals with degrees in education and related fields to become experts in assessing and teaching scientifically-based reading interventions. Studies show that 1 in 5 children could potentially struggle with dyslexia, therefore it is essential for educators to be adequately prepared to support these students.

Step 1: Elements of Structured Literacy
The first step in earning your credential is by completing the Elements of Structured Literacy program. This virtual offering provides synchronous and asynchronous, interactive learning about language and literacy, dyslexia, and methods of structured literacy. Upon completion, candidates will understand how to assess and teach scientifically based word reading instruction for individual, small, and whole class learning. Additional modules for fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary are provided. The course is designed for educators and specialists who teach emergent readers and those needing additional support with word recognition.

Step 2: Dyslexia Interventionist
This intensive offering is for those wish to pursue certification as an IDA recognized Dyslexia Interventionist. The program is 30 weeks in length with the bulk of learning engaged in a 24 week practicum (45-60 minute lessons) where candidates provide one on one instruction to a learner with word level reading difficulties. Upon completion, the candidates may seek certification through the IDA recognized Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist process.
