Job Title – Technical Services/CMC/Serials Student Worker
Purpose of Job
Individual is responsible for shelving, daily maintenance, and other projects associated with the library’s Curriculum Materials Collection.
The individual also works in Technical Services and is responsible for processing of library materials, updating of records in library catalog, and mending of materials. In addition, this individual will be involved in numerous projects to assist librarians with specific projects to maintain the integrity of the library’s collection.
The library receives approximately 50 to 100 new periodical issues every week in addition to access to over 100,000 titles through our databases. The Serials Assistant will be responsible for the physical processing of new arrivals, the proper removal of old editions as they are archived digitally, and the on-going verification of access to our electronic holdings.
Duties and Responsibilities
For Curriculum Materials Collection (CMC):
Check-in (using the circulation module) and re-shelve CMC items.
Shelf read the CMC collection (make sure items are in call number order).
Maintenance of CMC area (straighten books, push in chairs, etc.).
Assist with CMC book displays, bulletin boards, and marketing.
For Technical Services:
Process library materials, all formats, for library shelves (label, stamp with ownership, etc.).
Mending and repair of library materials.
Updating information within bibliographic records in library catalog (adding table of contents, subject headings, etc.)
Assists with library catalog maintenance.
Special projects as assigned (such as inventory of library collections).
For Serials:
Daily check-in, label, sensitize and shelve periodicals
Organize and maintain periodical shelves
Track in-house usage of periodicals
Organize, maintain, and shelve coffee shop periodicals and newspapers
Monthly verification of access to electronic resources
Yearly discard of outdated materials
Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
Must be proficient with Word.
Must enjoy computer work and be willing to sit for long periods of time.
Must be detail oriented and precise.
Must be able to perform routine tasks.
Must be able to work independently
Must be able to lift 25 pounds
Must be comfortable with technology
