What is your teaching style?

I like to have a relaxed environment where I can present information to the students while also encouraging discussion by welcoming input on the students’ thoughts and experiences.  I believe everyone can contribute to the education of the students, even their peers.  It allows the students to understand the importance of collaboration, effective communication and interprofessional relationships.  I also like to be very approachable, allowing my students to feel comfortable, which I feel builds confidence, and helps them comprehend and truly understand and apply the material they are learning.

Why do you do what you do?

I strive to link education to real life clinical practice and enjoy watching students grow and apply their skill set and confidence, allowing them to become an asset to the healthcare workforce.  I take pride in my part to provide exceptional patient care and the diligence of my clinical work and want to pass this on to the next generation of pathologists’ assistants.

How do you make learning engaging?

I like to use examples from real life experiences and integrate them into my course material to provide a more personal and visual experience, which I feel can really engage the students and provide a positive learning environment.  I feel that positive learning experiences can increase comprehension and retention of the material presented.

What should students know about you?

I enjoy spending time with my family and being involved with my children’s school and extracurricular activities.  I love to watch my children engage in the activities/sports that bring them joy. I enjoy exercising/running, volleyball, reading and going on vacation with my family.
