Champions of Industry Session featuring Roger Penske

Carroll University and The Sullivan School of Business and Technology are proud to present a four-part series, hosted by Dean Tim Sullivan '75, that will entail a "fireside chat" with audience participation.

This session will be held with Roger Penske, Chairman of Penske Corporation who will be joined by Josef Newgarden, Team Penske INDYCAR driver and 2023 Indianapolis 500 Champion and Shari Black ‘01, CEO of Wisconsin State Fair Park.  

Roger Penske is the founder and chairman of Penske Corporation, a transportation services company whose subsidiaries operate in a variety of industry segments, including retail automotive, truck leasing, transportation logistics and professional motorsports. Penske Corporation manages businesses which have consolidated revenues of more than $42 billion, operating in over 3,200 locations and employing more than 72,000 people worldwide.

Penske Transportation Solutions includes Penske Truck Leasing, Penske Logistics, Epes Transport Systems and Penske Vehicle Services operating over 442,000 trucks, tractors and trailers. Penske Automotive Group, Inc., (NYSE: PAG) is a diversified international transportation services company and one of the world’s premier automotive and commercial truck retailers. Team Penske is one of the most successful teams in the history of professional sports, producing more than 620 major race wins, over 680 pole positions and 44 championships over the last 57 years. For this panel discussion, Penske will be joined by Josef Newgarden and Shari Black ‘01.

Newgarden competes in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES for Team Penske. The Nashville, Tennessee native won the INDYCAR SERIES championship in both 2017 and 2019 and he is the reigning Indianapolis 500 winner.

Carroll alumna, Shari Black ‘01 is the executive director and chief executive officer of one of the largest fairs in the U.S. and the third largest of the Midwestern “Heartland” fairs, the Wisconsin State Fair. In 2024, the Wisconsin State Fair Park welcomes INDYCAR back to the Milwaukee Mile with the first-ever NTT INDYCAR SERIES doubleheader at the historic one-mile oval track during Labor Day weekend, August 30-September 1. Wisconsin State Fair Park is teaming up with Penske Entertainment to host the Hy-Vee Milwaukee Mile 250s Weekend, which will mark the first INDYCAR event at the Milwaukee Mile since 2015.

This event will be open to the campus community and the public. Doors will open at 5 p.m.
