We are excited to announce that our inaugural TEDxCarrollUniversity event will be held in Shattuck Auditorium on Saturday, Oct. 22. The event, open to the public, brings unique ideas from students, faculty and keynote speakers to the Pioneer family and community beyond.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created TEDx – a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our signature university event is called TEDxCarrollUniversity. The letter ‘x’ means that it is an independently organized TED event.

Join us as we explore a diverse range of topics all related to the strength found in our communities that revolve around people, ideas, initiatives, art and much more. The in-person event will feature 10 live TEDx talks, all centering on this year’s theme: Strength in Community.

Our TEDxCarrollUniversity speakers will share a variety of stories about how communities can lean on each other for support, in good times and bad. Together, we’ll examine how we can unite to find strength in celebration, but also during times of grief or loss. We notice that things start to shift when we choose to approach these moments together, as a community.

Please visit the TEDxCarrollUniversity website if you are interested in submitting a proposal to speak at the event. The submission deadline is Thursday, June 30.

Please email tedx@carrollu.edu with the following information:

  • A brief biography of yourself.
  • The main idea and a basic outline of your talk. Note: Applicants should heavily explore in their main outline how their “talk” fits with the TEDxCarrollUniversity theme of Strength in Community. This main outline should not exceed one page in length.
  • Please provide an estimated time for your “talk.”
  • Links to any books, articles, blogs or past speaking engagements that would help our selection committee understand who you are.
