A. Paul Jones '55
1994 Distinguished Alumnus Award for Service to Carroll
A. Paul Jones '55 was a proud alumnus who invested much of his life at Carroll. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and then graduated from Carroll magna cum laude with a degree in business administration and economics. He went on to receive his master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School.
Jones spent his entire business career with First Wisconsin National Bank of Milwaukee (now U.S. Bank) serving as vice president of the institution. He retired in 1985 after a successful 28-year career with the bank.
He served on the Carroll Alumni Council from 1968 to 1973. He then continued his affiliation beginning service on the Board of Trustees in 1972. He served on the Board for 27 years until his departure in 1999.
Jones also played a critical role and assumed leadership of the campus volunteering his services as acting president of the college from 1992 to 1993 until Dr. Dr. Frank S. Falcone was named Carroll’s 12th president in January 1993. According to many of his colleagues, Jones played a significant role in helping Carroll recover from the financial crisis it had been faced with.
Jones died in 2006 at age 80. The A. Paul Jones Scholars Hall on Wright Street was dedicated in his honor in 1999. The house is now home to the Pioneer Scholars Undergraduate Research Program, the Honors Program and the Office of International Education.
