Master of Science in Exercise Physiology (MEXP) 3+2 Direct Admission

High school students may qualify for the accelerated 3+2 completion option (three years of undergraduate study and two years of graduate study) if they satisfy all the MEXP application requirements. Prerequisite coursework, major and general education requirements must be completed by the end of their junior year of undergraduate study in order to advance into year one of the graduate MEXP program in their senior year.

During their freshman, sophomore, and junior years at the University, direct admission students earn credits toward undergraduate degrees in existing Carroll majors. Direct admission students earn their bachelor’s degree at the end of the fourth year of study and a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology degree at the end of the fifth year.

Direct Admission Minimum Requirements and Application Instructions

  1. Complete the recommended high school coursework with a grade of “C” or better
    • One year of biology
    • One year of chemistry
    • Three years of mathematics
    • Other suggested courses include physics, anatomy, physiology, calculus and international baccalaureate
  2. Submit official high school transcripts through the sixth semester
  3. Apply to Carroll University through the free online application and indicate “Exercise Science” as your major
  4. Indicate your desire to apply for the MEXP Direct Admission Program by emailing your admission counselor

Progression Requirements

Direct admission candidates must meet the following progression requirements prior to entering the graduate program.

  1. Earn a 2.75 cumulative and pre-professional GPA, with C’s or better in all pre-professional coursework
  2. Submit the following by February 1st of your junior (3+2) or senior (4+2) year:
    • Graduate online application to apply for progression into the Master of Science in Exercise Physiology Program.
    • Professional Resume
    • Personal Statement
      • Describe your understanding of exercise physiology as a career path
      • List any related academic or practical experiences you have had
      • Outline your future professional goals and how your graduate education will assist you in achieving those goals
    • Safety and Technical Standards Form
  3. Successfully complete or be in progress of completing all the MEXP prerequisite course work as well as undergraduate major, support and general education course work prior to entering the graduate program (note: CCS400 may be completed during year one of the graduate program). Prerequisite coursework includes:
    • Anatomy & Physiology I with Lab (ANP130)
    • Anatomy & Physiology II with Lab (ANP140)
    • Exercise Physiology with Lab (ESC280)
    • Exercise Testing & Prescription (ESC320) – recommended, but not required
    • Introduction to Psychology (PSY101)
    • Computational Thinking I (CMP112)
  4. Proof of current CPR and First Aid certification for the Professional Rescuer or Healthcare Provider is required prior to commencing the program.
