Diagnostic Medical Sonography emphasis

As a diagnostic medical sonographer you’ll work directly with patients to ensure they receive proper care based on the images you take through ultrasound technology. This role requires a combination of technical and communication skills. Sonographers are expected to deliver clear images that will help physicians correctly diagnose problems and may be the first person a patient interacts with during an appointment. Depending on the track you choose, you could be taking ultrasounds for pregnant women or looking at abnormal heart conditions among many other medical issues.

Our partnership program gives you the skills required to provide care to patients in a hospital or clinic setting and also allows you to earn a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences: Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

Students will begin their studies at Carroll taking courses such as human anatomy and physiology, general chemistry and intercultural communication - which are required by our healthcare partners to begin the second phase of the program. You’ll also complete additional required nursing courses. Once all of your prerequisite courses are completed you’ll apply to our partner programs at Aurora Health Care and University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison where you’ll continue your education through hands-on work in diverse clinical settings.

Chose from two specialized tracks during the hospital phase of the program:

Diagnostic medical sonographers rank as the fifth best allied health profession with an employment that is expected to grow significantly in the next ten years. The position offers a competitive salary and opportunities to work in hospitals, clinics or laboratories.

Diagnostic Medical Sonography Entry Requirements

Entry into the Aurora Health Care or the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics professional phase is highly competitive and determined solely by the admissions committee at each hospital’s independent School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
