Why did you choose to attend Carroll University?
I choose to attend Carroll University because I knew it was the best school to go to for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Through open house I met my advisor who I realized cares deeply about her students. I also knew the smaller classroom sizes would be very beneficial to me as I could grow one on one relationships with my professors. Carroll also offers Supplemental Instruction where students who previously took the class hold tutoring sessions that are very beneficial.
What made you choose your academic major or area of study?
I chose to study Diagnostic Medical Sonography because I had a first hand interaction with a sonographer when I was in high school that allowed me to ask questions that sparked my interest in the field and made me want to research more!
How has what you’ve learned prepared you for your future?
At Carroll I have learned and grown in my patient interactions and pathologies through the nursing classes I took my second year. These skills and knowledge will help me succeed when I start the ultrasound program.
What opportunities have you had to work closely with a faculty member and what impact has that had on your education?
All professors provide office hours and are very flexible to meet with you one on one. Utilize these opportunities if you are struggling in a class as they are very helpful. I found this to be extremely helpful and I was able to maintain my honor roll status. It is encouraging to know that the professors at Carroll truly care about their students' success in their classes.
What’s one unique experience you’ve had relating to the coursework for your academic major or area of study?
In this coming fall I will start my ultrasound program through St. Luke's Aurora's general track. In this program I will be participating in hands on clinical experience weekly where I will grow tremendously as a sonographer and improve my scanning skills.
How has Carroll enriched your growth as a person outside of the skills you’re learning in the classroom?
Carroll has enriched my growth as a person outside of skills in the classroom through growing a deeper understanding for other cultures outside of my own. This will help me understand and relate to patients from different cultures during scans.
Other thoughts.
Carroll University does a great job with their course curriculum to ensure that you succeed and provides a sample plan for your first two years. Make sure to get involved on campus and utilize the resources that Carroll University offers. One way to get involved specific to ultrasound is to join the Medical Diagnostic and Imaging Club.
