Why did you choose to attend Carroll University?
I choose to attend Carroll because I liked its sense of community. Prior to coming to Carroll, I toured larger universities that seemed like they would never feel like home. I'm happy to say that after the years I've spent here, Carroll has become a home away from home.
What made you choose your academic major or area of study?
I chose the communication major because I've always had a passion for connecting with others. The communication program allowed me to explore this passion and unlock even deeper meaning from the interactions I have every day.
How has what you’ve learned prepared you for your future?
Through the communication program, I have learned how to turn my passion for everything media and mass communication into a professional career. The different career-based courses I took through this program, from Intro to Advertising to Intro to Public Relations, have given me a background in each sector of the professional communication field.
What opportunities have you had to work closely with a faculty member and what impact has that had on your education?
Throughout my time in the program, I have been able to form connections with each of my professors, including some that I had for multiple courses and multiple years straight. One of my favorite memories from my time at Carroll was taking classes with Dr. Gordon for four semesters straight, which deepened my connection to each course and their lessons.
What’s one unique experience you’ve had relating to the coursework for your academic major or area of study?
One of my favorite memories from the communication major was taking a course on podcasting. I was able to create and star in several podcasts, and used the skills to start my own podcast!
How has Carroll enriched your growth as a person outside of the skills you’re learning in the classroom?
One of the things that Carroll emphasized throughout my time here was culture and intercultural communication. I gained a much deeper understanding of the world, and how to appreciate cultural differences. Through Carroll, I was able to take a CCE to Bali, where I formed friendships with some of the local Balinese people that last to this day.
