Job Title – Front Desk Worker

Purpose of Job

  • To create a welcoming community for residents and guests as they enter the residence hall. The Front Desk Worker (FDW) distributes mail and packages in a timely fashion, and serves as a point of contact for resident questions and concerns. FDWs are responsible for answering the phone, taking messages, checking out equipment, in addition to any other tasks assigned. The FDW is an integral part in maintaining residence hall services and supporting the safety and security of Carroll University housing facilities. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work weekends (minimum number determined by location of FDW position)
  • Work break times (Fall break, J-term, Easter Break)
  • Greeting residents and guests as they enter the building
  • Answering residents’ questions as necessary
  • Checking out equipment
  • Distributing mail and packages following the proper protocol and procedures
  • Answering desk phone, taking and passing messages on to other FDWs and/or Residence Life and Housing staff
  • Reporting urgent issues to Residence Life and Housing staff, Public Safety, or Physical Plant
  • Shoveling and salting the sidewalks immediately outside of the residence halls when it is snowing or when requested
  • Completing other duties and tasks as assigned by the Community Coordinator or the Area Director

Job Qualifications

  • Must be a full-time student
  • Must be able to have a work study position, as this position is paid only through work study
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Reliability, responsibility, maturity, and willingness to help students and guests
  • Ability to function as an effective team member
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to perform limited manual labor such as lifting boxes, shoveling snow, and other functions as deemed necessary
