Behavioral Health Psychology

Biography

I enjoy coffee, nature, and time spent with family and friends. I am married with two small children and love to travel. One of my favorite books of all time is Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl and enjoy reading for pleasure when I have the time to do so.

Education

I completed my undergraduate degree at UW-Milwaukee and my graduate degree in Clinical Psychology at the Wisconsin School of Professional Psychology. I completed my pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral residency at Hazelden Betty Ford in Minnesota.  I completed EMDR training with the Midwest Center for Trauma and Healing and look forward to becoming EMDRIA certified.

Areas of Specialization

As an outpatient psychologist I provide individual and group therapy. Specialty areas including the treatment of substance use disorders and PTSD. One skill I utilize frequently is EMDR and I enjoy working with clients across the lifespan.

What is your teaching style?

My teaching style is all about conversation and connection. I believe every person brings to the classroom their own wisdom from learned experience and I hope to learn from my students as they learn from me. I enjoy incorporating lessons learned from my outpatient practice into the classroom and believe in this way theory and the real-world merge together to enhance understanding and skill.

Why do you do what you do?

I became a psychologist to help others learn and grow and I believe this is also why I value teaching.

How do you make learning engaging?

As I mentioned earlier, my teaching style is all about conversation and connection. I try to engage students through various modalities of learning; whether it’s watching a documentary, discussing a case study, or working in small groups. Psychology is inherently interesting so my work is to create the space to learn, ask questions, and apply the skills.

What should students know about you?

I am a forever student- if I don't know something we will work to find the answer out together.
