2006 P.E. MacAllister Distinguished Alumnus Award for Service to Carroll 

Jim Schneider '74 was elected to the Carroll Board of Trustees in 2000 and has served on the board’s Academic, Student Life and Advancement committees. Throughout his tenure, he has also been instrumental in strengthening the business administration and economics program. He has served on the Business Advisory Council and is active in helping establish internships for Carroll students. In 2002, Jim was the keynote speaker at Career Day.

Jim, and his wife Debi '83, have been major donors to the Gateway Campaign, Main Hall renovation project, and annual support to the Carroll Fund.  The auditorium in Main Hall is named for the Schneiders.  Additionally, they also provided major funding for the Building Champions Campaign which made it possible for the college to renovate the stadium with a new playing surface, scoreboard and lighting.

Mr. Schneider holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Carroll, and is a certified public accountant.  He has served on the board of directors of Dell Financial Services, Gap Inc., General Communications, Inc., Alereon, Inc., Zilliant, Inc. and Lockheed Martin.  He is also a member of the Financial Executives Institute.  For four consecutive years, Institutional Investor named Jim top CFO in IT hardware, and in 2003, was named one of the 100 most influential finance executives by Treasury & Risk Management magazine.

Professionally, Jim worked for 19 years at Price Waterhouse in the United States and international markets, including 10 years as a partner.  Following Price Waterhouse, he worked at MCI Communications Corp. in Washington, D.C., where he was senior vice president of finance.  He then went on to serve as senior vice president and chief financial officer of Dell Inc.  In this role, Jim was responsible for all controller functions, planning, tax, treasury operations, investor relations, corporate development, real estate, risk management and development of internal audits.  In addition to his finance responsibilities, Mr. Schneider served as Dell's chief information officer on an interim basis from 1999 to 2000.

Currently, Jim serves as the Chairman of Horizon Bank, a privately held bank in Austin, Texas where he is actively involved with the expansion of subsidiary banks in Central Texas with the focus on small to middle market business. In May 2012, he also became an Operating Partner at Lead Edge Capital in New York which invests in expansion stage technology companies.
