Fred Foreman '70

1997 Distinguished Alumnus Award

Fred Foreman '70 was named United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois by President Bush in 1990. During his tenure, he worked to successfully attack criminal organizations and public corruption. In the process, the leadership of organized crime in Chicago and major drug organizations were severely crippled. He was also successful in achieving the prosecution of bank, tax and bankruptcy fraud.
 
Prior to being named U.S. Attorney, Fred served three terms as State’s Attorney for Lake County, Ill., where he personally assisted in the implementation of the County’s Self Insurance Program, served as legal advisor for the County board and represented the County and Sherriff in federal and state civil rights litigation. He personally supervised significant litigation in the areas of antitrust, land use, zoning, condemnation, waste management and other environmental matters. 
 
His office received several national awards for innovative programs including the establishment of the Lake County Children’s Advocacy Center. Mr. Foreman also served as the Governor’s, Supreme Court and General Assembly’s appointee on several state-wide committees and task forces. 
 
Fred has served as President of the National District Attorney Association and the Illinois State’s Attorney’s Association. He has been active in several bar associations and served on the Board of Directors for the American Prosecutor’s Research Institute.  Beyond his professional achievements, he has also been a dedicated civic leaders involved on the Board of Lambs Farm, Community Action Project, United Way of Lake County, YMCA of Lake County, Boy Scouts of America Northeast Council and Lake County Urban League.
 
Fred graduated from Carroll in 1970 majoring in history and psychology. He served on the Carroll Board of Trustees from 1997-2006. At Carroll he met his wife, Stephanie (Lancaster) Foreman '70; they currently reside in Gurnee, Ill. 
 
Beyond their personal connection, they are thrilled to be able to share the Carroll legacy with their children: Melissa, Carroll graduate from the class of 2001; and Melanie, Carroll graduate from the class of 2007.
