Master of Education in Literacy
The Master of Education in Literacy (M.Ed.) at Carroll University is a 30-credit advanced degree designed for educators seeking deep expertise in evidence-based literacy instruction, reading-related disabilities, and literacy leadership. The program pairs 24 credits of specialized graduate literacy study with 6 credits of research.
Traditionally, students fulfill this curriculum by completing coursework for both the Reading Teacher (#3016) and Reading Specialist (#5017) licenses - bridging deep exploration in literacy development, assessment, and targeted intervention with advanced preparation in literacy leadership, instructional coaching, and program evaluation. Students have the option to add the Dyslexia Interentionist Certificate program (4 credits)
The additional 6 credits of courses develop educators' skill set in reading research and culminate in an action research project in which educators conduct original research conneted to literacy instruction, intervention, or leadership.
