Why did you choose to attend Carroll University?
I chose to attend Carroll because of its smaller size, giving me more individual attention in and out of the classroom. Being from Chicago I also chose to attend Carroll due to its distance from home.
What made you choose your academic major or area of study?
I've always had a passion for art and design, and after taking a graphic design class in high school, I knew it was the field I wanted to pursue academically. When I visited Carroll and had the opportunity to explore their graphic design program, I could tell that it was the perfect fit for me.
How has what you’ve learned prepared you for your future?
During my time at Carroll, I encountered different professors with different teaching styles. This will benefit in me in the future because I it taught me to be more flexible and open minded to others methods of completing tasks.
What opportunities have you had to work closely with a faculty member and what impact has that had on your education?
I got to work closely with Elizabeth McCord. I always enjoy working with her! During my time with Spiritual Life she gave me total design freedom during graphic projects, which I think is perfect for me to let me grow in my design skills. She also was such an awesome person to talk to outside the classroom.
What’s one unique experience you’ve had relating to the coursework for your academic major or area of study?
I had an amazing experience during my junior year. During the first semester I took a class called "Advanced Design Thinking" where I learned about different ways to brainstorm and build upon on everything we learned since freshman year. We applied those strategies to solve a complex design problem for a local business. At the end of the semester, we presented our ideas to the client. Then, second semester we focused on developing a personal design project. They were such unique classes where I was able to get hands on experience of what my graphic design major has been teaching me.
How has Carroll enriched your growth as a person outside of the skills you’re learning in the classroom?
I was faced with a lot of challenges with not being a very social person. I had to work hard to talk to people I wasn't comfortable with and I gained confidence while doing so.
