Majors: Music Education (Choral and General emphases)

What made you choose this major?

I chose music education because growing up, I had extremely influential music teachers. When I think about what I want to do with my life, and the kind of impact I want to leave on this world, I knew I wanted to use my passion for music to inspire and empower other people. I can't think of a better way to do that than to teach.

How has what you've learned prepared you for your future?

I've learned so much about what it takes to be a quality educator. The education department and faculty have created a great program that focuses on having a growth mindset, and being lifelong learners. They prepare us for real life classrooms and students, and give us the tools we need to be quality educators.

What opportunities have you had to work closely with a faculty member and what impact has that had on your education?

Carroll's faculty is incomparable to other schools I toured. One specific opportunity I've had, was when we had our fall retreat for Chamber Singers. We spent a whole weekend working on our music and building friendships. Dr. (Patrick) Dill made such a fun weekend! And after the retreat, he had all of us over for dinner at his house. It was such a cool experience that I never would've gotten at a bigger school.

What's a unique experience you've had relating to the coursework for your major?

I think the coolest experience I've had at Carroll is Choir Tour. Choir Tour takes place over J-term with the Chamber Singers class. We get to travel around Wisconsin and sing our repertoire from our fall concert season for tons of high schools and churches. We got to meet so many incredible people and sing in beautiful churches! But my favorite part was getting to talk to the high school kids about music, college and how great Carroll is. I got so close with my classmates and made a lot of great memories.

Why did you choose to attend Carroll University?

I'm very happy that I'm at Carroll. I have so many opportunities for both personal and professional growth, I get the attention and support I need from my professors, and the sense of community on this campus is incredible. Everyone is so kind and welcoming, it's a great place to be.

Is there anything else you'd like to share about your experience at Carroll University?

Carroll is truly one of a kind. From the fantastic academic programs, co-curricular opportunities, to the supportive professors, you won't find anywhere else that is as caring and welcoming as Carroll. Go Pios!
