Cold Weather Tips

When colder than average temperatures are predicted, follow these tips to help you stay warm, healthy and safe when you need to be outdoors.

Health Tips

The Health Center recommends members of the campus community stay indoors as much as possible to limit exposure to the cold and avoid hypothermia or frostbite. In these conditions, frostbite can occur in just 30 minutes or less.

To dress appropriately for the weather, wear:

  • Hats that cover the ears
  • A scarf or facemask
  • Water-resistant coats
  • Several loose layers of clothing
  • Gloves/mittens
  • Warm boots/footwear

If you need winter gear, gloves and hats are available for purchase in the campus store.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website has more information on staying healthy in cold weather.
