Behavioral Health Responder
Behavioral Health Responder
The Behavioral Health Responder (BHR) is a non-credit curriculum designed to prepare participants to respond to emergency situations involving individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis.
Training will incorporate online and in-person learning to maximize skill development.
Program Details
This two-part program includes:
The Foundations of Behavioral Health Response course
The BHR clinical Experience
Participants who have met minimum requirements will receive a digital badge for each portion.
This program would be beneficial for anybody who may encounter individuals in behavioral health crisis, including, but not limited to:
Police Officers
Emergency responders
Residential care facilities
Emergency Room employees
Program applicant prerequisite:
Carry a minimum education of an Associate Degree
Foundations of Behavioral Health Response
The first part of the program is a training experience designed to give participants an insight into the driving factors that will impact their work with individuals experiencing mental health crisis.
Participants can expect to spend up to 10 hours a week to complete the assigned content. Content will include both online and in-person learning to maximize skill development. In-person dates will take place at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
Course content will include foundational information related to:
Trauma
Psychopathology
Substance use
Crisis intervention
Case management
Professional sustainability
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Criminal Justice and mental health
The BHR Clinical Experience
To obtain the full credential, a clinical of 200 hours of the above content is required. Space for the 2023 clinical rotation is limited, though additional information for subsequent clinical offerings will be available soon.
