Health Insurance Information for Accepted International Students
Carroll University policy requires that all students on F-1 visas enroll in the university's sponsored health insurance plan for international students.
Health Insurance Enrollment Verification forms will be sent to each confirmed student prior to their arrival from international admisson.
Insurance waivers are only provided for students who are able to provide proof of comparable coverage through a sponsoring government (i.e., embassy or cultural mission sponsored students) or through employer-based US company insurance.
- Waivers for sponsoring government insurance are granted when students can provide a sponsor letter with a financial guarantee of full medical benefits for the student (and dependents) and a current medical card. Please note that this type of government sponsorship is different that coverage by a national health service in your home country. Examples are the governments of the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
- Waivers for employer-based US company insurance are granted when students are enrolled in policy that is tied to employment at a US company. This typically means either the student's spouse or parent is employed by the US company and the student is listed as a dependent on the policy. This does NOT allow for waivers for students who simply enroll in a policy provided by a US insurance company.
Students should not assume that the Carroll University international student insurance requirement will be waived. All insurance waiver requests should be submitted by email to your international student advisor and should include coverage information for the alternate insurance policy. Students should not assume that their insurance waiver request has been approved until they receive written confirmation. Waivers will not be granted because a student has already purchased a different form of insurance.
