Founders’ Day Speaker

David Laatsch '95

Founders' Day is an annual celebration of Carroll's founding. It is an occasion to mark the university's rich heritage but also to look forward, evoking the vision and pioneering spirit of our founders. This year's theme is stewardship.

The featured Founders' Day speaker, David Laatsch '95, can speak to both past and future at Carroll. Currently a vice president of operations excellence at Advocate Aurora Health, Laatsch has a connection to Carroll's history which stretches back decades before his own birth. His great-grandfather, William Ganfield, taught at Carroll in the early 1900s and returned to serve as president from 1921 through 1939. Laatsch’s grandmother, great-aunts and great-uncle all are alumni (in fact, both sets of grandparents attended Carroll), as are his father, sister and other family members.

Laatsch will speak on the theme of stewardship and even here, can call upon a rich personal legacy. Now in his fourth year as a trustee, Laatsch was preceded on the board by both his grandfather and father. “Those founders and leaders have been good stewards," he noted. "Carroll has endured and today, an education here is more important than ever—it provides students the tools they need to be good stewards themselves.”
