Job Title – Visitor Services Assistant

Purpose of Job

  • Carroll University’s 75-acre off-campus Greene Field Station is in the beautiful Kettle Moraine region of Wisconsin. The station includes a pristine trout stream with associated springs and wetland communities, as well as upland oak savannah habitats. The Prairie Springs Environmental Education Center allows for significant expansion of field station activities including the ability to have Carroll students, faculty, and staff and community members on site to hike the trails, use the grounds, and tour the research center. The Visitor Services Assistant is the first point of contact for visitors as they arrive at Prairie Springs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greet visitors as they enter the research center
  • Provide visitors with information on the trails, history of Prairie Springs Environmental Education Center and the Greene Field Station, and current program offerings
  • If no programs are in session in the research center, provide tours for visitors
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator, other work study students, and volunteers – with potential for gaining experience in education-based programs and land management
  • Assist with various tasks related to programming and organization of the center as assigned by the Coordinator
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications

  • Experience working in customer service preferred.
  • Willingness to learn and try new things.
  • Ability to be flexible in work schedule
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of ages.
  • Candidates with previous experience working at a field station, nature center or similar setting are strongly encouraged to apply. 
  • MUST HAVE: reliable transportation
