Dr. Akbari joined the Carroll family in January 27, 2020. He strongly believes in the “pioneer-driven” vision of Carroll University for transforming the world for the better through the power of engaged education.

Dr. Akbari received his Ph.D. in Business Administration from the Ohio State University in 1988. He received his MBA and second Master's in Political Science from University of Toledo. He is also a 2016 graduate of Harvard University’s summer program in Higher Education Management and Leadership and a 2015 graduate of the Blandin Foundation’s Community Leadership Program.

Dr. Akbari is passionate about teaching and learning in business management and leadership. Over his more than three decades of academic career, he has taught undergraduate and MBA courses in leadership, management of change, gender and diversity in organizations, organizational behavior/design, and strategic management at Northeastern Illinois University, Northern Illinois University, Stuart School of Business and Winona State University. 

In 2010, Dr. Akbari was named the Audrey Reynolds Distinguished Teaching Professor in Management at Northeastern Illinois University. Dr. Akbari’s research interests are in leadership and management education. He has written, presented and published in these areas over the years.

Since 2001, Dr. Akbari has assumed a series of leadership roles as Department Chair, Executive Director of Development and Community Affairs, Business Dean, and as the Board Chairman of a Community Foundation. He has served on many different boards.

Dr. Akbari is a strong believer in the power of partnerships in living, learning, working and leading. He invites students to think of the Carroll University School of Business as a dedicated partner in their educational and professional success and development.
