Spring Arts Weekend

Please join us for Carroll University's first Spring Arts Weekend featuring a bi-lingual play, music performances, competitions and an art show! All events are free and open to the public. 

Bi-Lingual Play—Historias Para Ser Contadas
7-8 p.m. | Shattuck Music Center, Dorothy Goff Frisch Recital Hall

 

In the Spanish drama tradition, Theatre Arts and Modern Languages students will use dialogue, movement and music to tell the social issue based story of a poor man dealing with an abscessed tooth in an unjust economic world. Talkback to follow the performance. 

4-6 p.m. | Joyce Paddock Bliss Art Gallery

 

A soft opening for a group art show featuring students Kelley Curran, Edward M. Curran, Ashley Goetz and Daniela Salgado. Learn more about their featured works here.

Join us at the medallion in front of Main Hall for an open improvisational drum circle. We’ll provide the drums, shakers and other percussion instruments. Open to everyone. Come express yourself!

Established in 1997, the JUNO nominated Orchid Ensemble is Lan Tung (Taiwan/Canada) on the erhu/Chinese violin, Yu-Chen Wang (Taiwan/US) on the zheng/Chinese zither, and Jonathan Bernard (Canada) on percussion. The ensemble blends ancient musical instruments and traditions from China and beyond, creating a beautiful new sound. The ensemble has embraced a variety of musical styles to its repertoire, ranging from the traditional and contemporary music of China, World Music, New Music to Jazz and Creative Improvisation. The energetic yet endearing performance style of the ensemble consistently intrigues and delights its audiences. Acclaimed as ‘One of the brightest blossoms on the world music scene’ (Georgia Straight), the Orchid Ensemble has been tirelessly developing an innovative musical genre based on the cultural exchange between Western and Asian musicians. The Orchid Ensemble is joined by the Carroll Chamber Singers on several traditional Chinese songs.

The Carroll University Concert Choir welcomes the UW-Waukesha Concert Choir and the Slinger High School A Cappella Choir for a performance of three mass settings for chorus and organ by Franz Joseph Haydn, Nico Muhly and Alexander Gretchaninoff in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Carroll’s collaborative keyboard artist, Rhonda Kwiecien. 

1-5 p.m. | Shattuck Music Center Auditorium

 

Talented high school students grades 9-12 compete for cash awards. The public is invited to attend any of the performances throughout the day. Winners will be announced at 5:00 pm. 

1 p.m. | Humphrey Memorial Chapel

 

Carroll has many talented musicians who take lessons with the Carroll music faculty while majoring in another area. Featuring a variety of solo instrumental and vocal performances from Carroll students.
