ABIC is excited to announce our next speaker, Carroll alumnus Jason Bergen, Vice President of Research & Analytics in the Risk Selection Strategy department at Northwestern Mutual.

Underwriting is the process by which an insurance company assesses the risk associated with each applicant so that appropriate premiums can be charged. Over time, underwriting data, methods, and processes have changed, but the goal has remained the same – to optimize risk protective value, expenses, and experiences. At Northwestern Mutual, this translates to maximizing the product value that customers receive, while also providing a differentiated customer purchasing experience.

Given the explosion of available data and advances in analytic capabilities, we can now create new risk assessment mechanisms that will streamline the customer underwriting experience while simultaneously positively impacting the product value we can return to our clients. We can even consider brand new paradigms of insurance that can fundamentally alter the customer relationship with the company – going beyond supporting a family in a time of need to acting as a life & health enrichment/prolongment partner.

Bergen will discuss some of these new data sources, new analytical methods, and new paradigms of insurance and how they can transform the insurance underwriting experience.

After graduating from Carroll with his B.S. in Mathematics in 2000, Bergen later earned his Masters in Applied Mathematics at UW-Milwaukee. While at Carroll, he played on the basketball team, served on the residence life staff for two years, and met his wife Corrine (Henningfeld), who was a 2001 Carroll graduate.

This event is available in-person or virtually. Free for ABIC Members and students; $25 for non-members.
