Academic Advising

International students will work with the Center for Academic Advising Services (CAAS) and/or a faculty member in their area of study for advising each term. While you will work with CAAS primarily your first year at Carroll, know that you will also be assigned a faculty advisor in your major and you are encouraged to work with them regularly. Academic advising relationships are ongoing throughout your time at Carroll and twice a year, in October/November and February/March you will work specifically with an advisor to plan your schedule for the following term. Adding a Class

After your first semester on campus, once you are cleared for registration by your advisor you will be able to add and drop classes on your own through the student portal. You must meet all pre-requisites or receive consent of the course instructor in order to add a course online. You may add courses online until the day before classes begin each term. After this date you will have to add classes using an ADD/DROP slip, presented to the Registrar's Office. This form will require the signature of the course instructor. Please refer to the Academic Calendar to find out when the last day to add a class is each term. It is important to note that while the your International Student Advisor can offer you academic suggestions and guide you to resources, they do not have the ability to add you to courses, therefore you will need to contact CAAS or your faculty advisor if you are outside of your registration time.

Online Courses

International students are not allowed to take more than one online course per term. Additionally, some international students have additional restrictions regarding online courses from their sponsoring agencies. You are strongly encouraged to contact OGE to request advice before registering for online courses.

Changing Your Major

If you wish to change your major you are encouraged to meet with someone from the Center for Academic Advising Services to find out what your degree-plan would be with your new major. Your student visa is not dependent on any specific major (but it is possible that a specific sponsorship may require certain areas of study). Meet with the Office of Global Education to discuss your major change. At a minimum, you will need to update your immigration documents to ensure your new major is accurately reported. Changing your major may also result in the need to request a Program Extension.
