Information for Accepted International Students about Arriving at Carroll

Where is Carroll University located?
Waukesha is located just west of Milwaukee, in the state of Wisconsin. U.S.A.
How can I get to Waukesha?
The Office of International Education assists with international student arrival each semester, on the New International Student Arrival and Move-In Date. Please refer to the Academic Calendar to confirm the arrival date for the term you will start at Carroll University.
By Airplane
General Mitchell International Airport (airport code: MKE) serves the Milwaukee area and is the closest airport to Carroll University. Mitchell Airport is located approximately 26 miles (42km) south-east of Waukesha. Pickup is provided from General Mitchell International Airport to Carroll University on the new student arrival date each semester.
Chicago's O'Hare International Airport is one of the largest airports in the U.S. and is located only about two hours away from Waukesha. Airport pickup is not provided from Chicago O'Hare however Chicago O'Hare is connected to the Milwaukee/Waukesha area via an airport bus service, Wisconsin Coach Bus Line Services. Pickup is provided from General Mitchell International Airport or Georke's Corner's (both stops on the Coach Bus Lines route) to Carroll University on the new student arrival date each semester.
By Train
Amtrak has service between most major cities and Milwaukee. Pickup is provided from the Milwaukee (MKE) or the Milwaukee - Airport (MKA) stop to Carroll University on the new student arrival date each semester.
By Bus
Greyhound Bus Lines services Milwaukee. Pickup is provided from the Milwaukee Airport or the Waukesha stop to Carroll University on the new student arrival date each semester.
When should I arrive?
Students Living On Campus
All new international students living on campus should arrive to Carroll University the day before Carroll's International Student Orientation. In most cases, your arrival day will be the day before the "Program Start Date" listed on your I-20 document. Please email international@carrollu.edu confirm your arrival date before purchasing airfare.
An important note for students living on campus
Please pay close attention to the arrival date listed for your term on the Important Dates page. On campus housing is not provided prior to the arrival date listed for each term. It is also important to know that the Milwaukee airport is a small airport that is not appropriate for overnight stays. Students should NOT plan on spending the night in the Milwaukee airport and may be asked by security to leave. If you choose to arrive earlier than the listed arrival date it is strongly suggested that you make other accommodation arrangements, such as staying in an area hotel.
Students Living Off-Campus
All new international students should arrive to Carroll University for Carroll's International Student Orientation. In most cases, the International Student Orientation date will be the same date as the "Program Start Date" listed on your I-20 document. Please refer to the Academic Calendar to confirm the arrival date for the term you will start at Carroll University.
What about my baggage?
If you will arrive from outside the United States and expect to bring more baggage than is allowable on your airline ticket, you may send such by parcel post. Here is how to address your parcels:

We will hold the parcels until your arrival. Do not send items "postage collect." If there are any customs charges on parcel post, the packages will be held in the Post Office until you arrive and claim them. Each parcel should be declared "personal effects" or "books." Please do not send parcels more than two weeks before your arrival on campus.
New international students completing the form by the posted deadline will be picked up by a Carroll University representative from one of the approved pickup locations on the listed arrival date. You will receive confirmation that your form was received within three business days. Confirmation of pickup information will be provided closer to your arrival date.
