Dr. Jessica Boll
Richason Award: Dr. Jessica Boll
Dr. Boll’s personal and professional experiences have afforded her the opportunity to live, work and research in several countries and continents. In addition to studying abroad in Spain as an undergraduate at the University of Delaware, she spent an academic year teaching English in China and later studied Turkish language and culture at two different universities in Istanbul as part of her doctoral studies. Dr. Boll continues to frequently travel for both work and pleasure, having presented at conferences in Spain, Turkey, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Portugal, Hungary, Cyprus and Germany in recent years.
She has also developed programs and traveled with Carroll students to Spain, Argentina, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Costa Rica, and Cuba. Dr. Boll’s service to the university includes serving on the Academic Quality Committee, Honors Center, SALUD Program, Admissions Committee, and Faculty/Staff Concerns Committee. She was awarded the Norman and Louise Allhiser Award for Teaching Excellence in 2017 and the Carroll University Ethos Award for Respect in 2018.
But perhaps her students say it best. As a student in her Composition and Conversation course put it, “Dr. Boll is one of the best professors at Carroll and more professors need to learn from her teaching methods. If I can help it, I refuse to take any Spanish class that isn’t hers. Every assignment and activity facilitates learning.”
