A Carroll University team is one of 30 advancing to the third and final round of the Smart Cities / Smart Futures competition sponsored by Foxconn Technology Group. The competition began in October 2018 with 325 entries.
Moving on to round three are students Amanda Ferr and Donald Novak, and Tate Wilson, PhD, senior lecturer, physics, with the project LightSense (Light When You Need It). Round two winners will receive $1,500-dollar awards.
Completing the competition at the end of round two are students Ben Zott and Marika Thrams, and Mike Konemann, associate professor, computer science.
The competition is designed to elicit ideas from Wisconsin students and faculty in areas such as smart mobility, smart buildings, smart homes, smart energy and smart health, as well as quality of life, efficiency, productivity and management of resources.
Requirements for round three include a business plan and a video pitch as to why Foxconn would want to invest in the team’s concept.
Up to 16 round three winners will receive $5,000, with results announced by the end of April.
