Dr. Kerry Kretchmar, associate professor of education, is being honored with the Benjamin F. Richason Jr. Faculty Award. This is a memorial award established in honor of Professor Ben Richason and requires recipients to demonstrate excellence in teaching, research and educational innovation.

According to her nomination: “Dr. Kretchmar is an exceptional educator who excels in all aspects of the faculty role. Recent undergraduate students say she is “student centered” and “very prepared with great activities that stimulated learning”  and “her ability to use a variety of media and examples to teach is helpful to make connections to concepts.” Another student said: “Kerry is very passionate about what she is teaching. She does a really great job of drawing on personal experiences to make things more realistic for us.”

Dr. Kretchmar’s innovative approaches to education bring her out into the community, where she has led Carroll students in classes at La Casa de Esperanza and the Hawthorne Lab School. Her work with the Inclusive Teacher Residency Program has resulted in over $370,000 in stipends to Carroll students completing their student teaching. Dr. Kretchmar has also collaborated to disseminate this innovative program through peer-reviewed presentations and a journal article.
