Carroll University has announced the 2019 recipients of the faculty and staff awards for exemplary contributions in service. These awards are presented annually at the university’s Celebrate Success event.

Dr. Vickie Ericson, lecturer of physical therapy, is the faculty recipient of the Exemplary Contributions in Service Award; Lydia Guell, assistant director of career services, is the staff recipient of the Exemplary Contributions in Service Award.

Ericson is committed to service well beyond her responsibilities as an instructor, and has developed her classroom objectives to help meet the community’s growing needs for rehabilitation services, therapeutic care and massage therapy. She provides students with experiential opportunities to practice what they have learned in caring for individuals who are underinsured, uninsured or who have disabilities. Ericson also spends significant time developing policies and procedures for the Therapeutic Abilities Clinic (TAC), which serves 42 patients twice a week.

She sets the highest of expectations on her teaching and, as a result, extends student, employee and alumni impact well beyond Carroll University by providing many opportunities for service experiences within the Waukesha community.

Guell also is very involved in service opportunities at Carroll, whether it is creating the new resource library or launching online appointment scheduling via Handshake. She strengthens Carroll’s connections within the community through her involvement with the Women’s Center, where she has a variety of roles, including co-chair of the Women’s Center Advancing Advocates Committee.

Guell has held leadership roles with the Wisconsin Private Colleges Career Consortium (WIPCCC) since 2015, and will serve as co-chair of the WorkForce Career & Internship Fair for 2019 and 2020. As co-chair, she is developing an employer guidebook as well as creating and updating web marketing for the more than 20 schools in the WIPCCC.

As part of these awards, Carroll will provide a donation of $500 each on behalf of Ericson and Guell to charities of their choice.
