Free firewood available at Prairie Springs

Ecological restoration activities at Prairie Springs Environmental Education Center and Greene Field Station has involved removal of invasive buckthorn and ash trees killed by emerald ash borer, leaving - in the end - piles of free firewood for the taking.

Dr. Todd Levine, senior lecturer in biology and director of Prairie Springs Environmental Education Center and Greene Field Station, is inviting alumni to take the firewood for free but encourages a donation of any amount to support ecological restoration and student research at the facility.

He said some of the wood is suitable for projects but much of it is best used for firewood. Firewood must be burned in the eastern half of Wisconsin, due to restrictions in moving it.

Contact Dr. Leving by email at tlevine@carrollu.edu for details or to arrange for a pickup of wood.
