Carroll University’s School of Business and Technology is proud to announce John Michl as the new co-director of the Analytics and Business Intelligence Consortium (ABIC). His official start date was Wednesday, Feb. 16.

Originally from Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Michl brings nearly 40 years of analytic leadership experience in a variety of industries, including financial services, consulting, outsourcing and higher education. Michl holds a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in decision sciences and a Master of Science in Business Intelligence and Analytics from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pa.

After spending 13 professional years in Omaha, Michl returned to Milwaukee and held leadership roles in in call center management, sales analytics and customer loyalty consulting. For ten years, he led emerging technology research at Northwestern Mutual. Most recently, he contributed to the establishment of the Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute. This endeavor brought together two nationally recognized universities and one Fortune 100 company to promote and develop analytic talent in Southeastern Wisconsin.

Michl retired in 2021, after 16 years with Northwestern Mutual, and started JAM Analytics, LLC, serving clients’ analytics and skill development needs across the country. He started teaching business analytics for Carroll’s School of Business and Technology in fall 2021.

Now, as co-director of ABIC, Michl will be responsible for coordinating the annual ABIC conference, and all ABIC events. Michl’s new role will allow ABIC to continue collaboration with local companies, secure internships for students and, ultimately, grow the School of Business and Technology’s reach within the community.

“John was chosen for this role because of his many years of experience in data literacy and analytics,” said John Gnadinger, co-director of ABIC. “This addition to the ABIC team will allow us to concentrate on enhanced content, but also add workshops, conferences, panel discussions, student projects and other experiential learning opportunities for students and member organizations.”

Since 2011, Michl has taught remotely in the graduate analytics program at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pa., one of the nation’s first online, accredited graduate analytics programs.

“Learning and teaching are my two complimentary passions,” said Michl. “In my new role, I look forward to creating engaging opportunities for members to share knowledge and exchange ideas.”

Michl has also taught financial literacy, data literacy and computer science principles to at-risk high school students on a volunteer basis. He is a member of the Analytics Expert Network of the International Institute for Analytics and a contributor to The Data Lodge, a virtual network that helps connect data literacy leaders across organizations.
