Major: Radiologic Technology

What made you choose this major?

I always wanted to work in the medical field, but didn’t know where to start. Fortunately, in high school I took an advanced health course that introduced me to numerous careers within the health care field including radiology. This branch spiked my interest initially and was furthered following a softball injury and trips to get my own X-Rays done. I did some research about radiologic technologists and their education requirements and that is when I discovered Carroll and their great program. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to follow in this career path!

How has what you’ve learned prepared you for your future?

In my first two years at Carroll I took a lot of courses and the most beneficial was my two anatomy courses, cross cultural communications, health psychology and physics. These courses gave me a great baseline for my courses at Froedtert Hospital during my junior and eventually my senior year. Also, the range of courses gave me a wide spectrum of knowledge and study techniques.

How has Carroll enriched your growth as a person outside of the skills you’re learning in the classroom?

The radiologic technology major has a tight schedule to keep you on track to apply to the hospitals your sophomore year and be ready to start the hospital portion your junior and senior years. Though, there is still room to enjoy your outside interests. You can fill your general education requirements with courses like photography or history or writing courses to meet the requirements and maintain your interests. Outside of courses, you have time to join school clubs or participate in activities. My freshman year I participated in intramural sports and had enough time to do that and complete my course work. Throughout the years, I’ve participated in a lot of campus activities offered by different student organizations and enjoyed doing so. I’ve also worked a campus job as well as worked off campus jobs and participated in church.

If you were recommending your major to a prospective student, what would you tell them?

Whatever passions you want to pursue, as long as you make your studies a priority and be sure to keep track of your requirements, you will have plenty of time to take part in outside activities.

Why did you choose to attend Carroll University?

I’ve gained great skills in my rigorous courses that prepared me for the hospital portion of my education. I felt more than prepared going into my junior year and have done well in my first year at Froedtert. I felt like being a Carroll student make me a strong candidate for the program which helped me earn my spot at Froedtert. Overall, I’m very glad with my decision to attend Carroll, and thankful of the opportunities that it has brought me.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Never hesitate to ask questions and soak up everything like a sponge because it’ll probably come in handy! If you’re not sure, do job shadows with careers before you make your decision. Have fun!
