Majors: Athletic Training and Pre-Physical Therapy

What made you choose this major?

I’ve always had an interest in health care and a passion for sports. A degree in athletic training allows me to pursue a career that has the perfect combination of the two. The field of athletic training continues to expand and provides plenty of job opportunities in a number of different settings that will give me a variety of options after graduation.

How has what you’ve learned prepared you for your future?

The information I learned in classes has helped prepare me for the hands-on skills that are necessary for the future. Many of the courses are split between lecture and lab which allows us to take what we learned in lecture and apply it in a practical setting right away. Plenty of hours are spent on evaluating and assessing injuries as well as rehabilitation and treatment, allowing us as students to soak up as much information, skills and experience as possible.

What opportunities have you had to work closely with a faculty member and what impact has that had on your education?

All of the faculty have practiced in the health care field in some shape or form and have a great deal of expertise when it comes to athletic training. Many of the professors work directly with us during rehabilitation which allows us to not only get constructive feedback on how to improve but see how they operate in the field.

What’s one of the most unique experiences you’ve had relating to the coursework for your major?

Each student is assigned a high school where students are able to work one on one with the certified athletic trainer at that given high school. This allows us to continue to practice and refine our skills learned in class as well as learn new techniques and skills not taught in the classroom setting. It gives us valuable experience in the field and allows us to gain confidence in our abilities as future athletic trainers.

Why did you choose to attend Carroll University?

Carroll has allowed me to continue to pursue a degree that I enjoy and help prepare me for future endeavors in the health care field. My professors continue to challenge me and provide feedback and support that has allowed me to feel confident in my abilities and my future in the field.
