Majors: Photography and Graphic Communication

What made you choose this major?

I chose photography because I've been in love with taking photos for as long as I can remember. I think it’s truly magical that we’re capable of capturing a moment in time, emotion or call to action in a photograph. Studying photography at Carroll, I also began taking a lot of graphic design courses and fell in love with editing and logo design, which has furthered my photography business even more and has become not only my second passion, but my double major.

How has what you’ve learned prepared you for your future?

What I've learned at Carroll has prepared me for the real world of freelance photography and the business aspect of it.

What opportunities have you had to work closely with a faculty member and what impact has that had on your education?

Working closely with Professor Phil Krejcarek has truly inspired me in my fine art photography, and to continue working on my weird personal projects as art pieces. He truly pushes me to not give up on myself and believe in my art. Working closely with William Zuback, who also teaches in the program, has developed my commercial photography talents, especially with my fashion photography projects. Both of them have inspired me by just being able to see their work and study under them. They are both such wonderful photographers and following their work gives me new passion and ideas daily in my own work.

What’s one of the most unique experiences you’ve had relating to the coursework for your major?

While working with my brother in his cinematography/photography business during school, unique experiences are plentiful. My most unexpected experience though is meeting other photography students and collaborating with them. I am so grateful for the opportunity I received with Carroll to intern with my dear friend Robert Colletta, he has already taught me so much.

How has Carroll enriched your growth as a person outside of the skills you’re learning in the classroom?

It has helped me reach out more to my peers in my career path and in other paths and allowed me to further develop my people skills.

Why did you choose to attend Carroll University? Are you happy with the choice?

I honestly chose Carroll due to my father working at Carroll, but I am indeed very happy with the choice and I am pleasantly surprised every day which how much I have learned here.

What would you tell prospective students who might be choosing this major at Carroll?

Allow yourself to become immersed in your studies, find your unique photography style and listen to the advice your professors offer you.
