Elementary and Special Education degree tracks

Carroll University’s teacher education program offers two certification tracks leading to dual licensure in special education and elementary education.

Special Education/Early Childhood Education

This track adds a focus on children from preschool through third grade to the elementary education major. You’ll take elementary education courses in subjects such as exploration of education in society, developmental psychology, literacy and other subject area methods, assessments and planning, as well as courses directed at the younger child with exceptional needs. You’ll gain the skills to become an effective collaborator with families, other professionals and community agencies to support students with disabilities and create inclusive classrooms.

Special Education/Elementary Education

This track focuses on students from first through eighth grade in elementary and middle level settings. You’ll take education courses in subjects such as exploration of education in society, developmental psychology, literacy, assessments and planning, as well as courses directed at meeting the learning needs of all students. Coursework includes teaching methodologies for both elementary and special education. You’ll gain the skills to become an effective collaborator with families, other professionals and community agencies to support diverse student needs through equitable and inclusive environments.
