Dr. Susan Hanson, distinguished lecturer in health and medicine, is the 2019 recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award. This is the first year the award has been presented.

Hanson is dedicated to advising not only pre-health professions students, but to all students at Carroll University. She provides a holistic approach to advising, helping students to learn to reflect and grow during their time at Carroll.

Her nomination said: “While pre-health students have many requirements to meet in order to be successful graduate school candidates, Sue presents these factors to students as part of their journey to self-discovery to strengthen their career choice and not simply ‘boxes to check off.’”

Hanson’s passion and dedication shows not only in her face-to-face interactions with students, but in her contributions to the mission of advising at Carroll University. She has developed more than 40 original advising handouts, researched and curated numerous web resources, and provided hundreds of additional bookmarks and documents for the Pre-Health Advising MyGroups page.

Hanson also worked with colleagues to develop and facilitate the “Bound for Success” program, which guides students to become competitive applicants for the next phase of their academic journey.
