Financial Aid Process
Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

Step 1: Get organized.

  • Complete your taxes.
    • It is best to fill out the FAFSA using information from your completed tax forms. It is possible to use estimated numbers, but this will delay the processing of your financial aid award because you will need to send a copy of your tax forms to Carroll once they are completed or correct the information yourself online.
  • Apply for a PIN (if you don't already have one).
    • Go to www.pin.ed.gov and apply for a PIN number. You have the option to receive your PIN instantaneously or to have it sent to you via e-mail or postal mail. This four-digit number will serve as your electronic signature on the FAFSA when completing it on the Web.

Step 2: Submit your FAFSA.

There are two ways to complete your FAFSA:

  • On the web at www.fafsa.gov - Processing time of 2 to 3 weeks
    • We highly recommend completing your FAFSA on the Web.
    • Follow the instructions and complete all questions.
    • Utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool while completing the FAFSA.
    • Carroll's FAFSA school code is 003838. By including this number on your FAFSA, your results will be sent directly to us.
    • Print out a copy of your completed FAFSA for your records.
    • Submit your FAFSA to the Department of Education.

  • With the paper version - Processing time of 4 to 6 weeks.
    • You can obtain a paper FAFSA by calling the Department of Education at 1-800-4FED-AID.
    • Follow the instructions carefully and complete all questions.
    • Print neatly and clearly.
    • Carroll's FAFSA school code is 003838. By including this number on your FAFSA, your results will be sent directly to us.
    • Make a copy of your completed FAFSA for your records.
    • Mail your FAFSA to the Department of Education.

Step 3: What to look for after you file your FAFSA.

  • Once the Department of Education receives and processes your FAFSA, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR). Review this form for accuracy. It does not need to be submitted to Carroll University.
  • The Financial Aid Office will process your FAFSA and send you a financial aid award.
  • If you have any special or unusual circumstances, you may submit them in writing to the Financial Aid Office.
