About the Dorothy Sainsbury-Steinmetz Memorial Scholarship Program

Carroll University offers The Dorothy Sainsbury-Steinmetz Memorial Scholarship awards to prospective students with a high level of achievement in theatre at the high school and/or community theatre level.

Conditions of Eligibility

  • The awards are available to students at any level (high school graduate, junior college, college transfer student) who intend full-time enrollment at Carroll University with a primary or secondary major in theatre or musical theatre. The awards are renewable in each succeeding year of study at Carroll University.
  • The student must be an accepted applicant of Carroll University for fall 2024.

Conditions of Competition

The student should submit the following:

  1. Application
  2. A current resume of your theatrical experience resume
  3. A personal essay addressing your main interests in the theatre or musical theatre and why you are the perfect candidate for the program at Carroll University. Essays must be 700-750 words, typed and double spaced, with one-inch margins on all four sides of the page, using a 12-point Times New Roman or equivalent font.

For priority consideration, application materials must be received no later than January 2, 2024.

Theatre faculty will review the completed application, resume and essay. If qualified, a student majoring in musical theatre or theatre may be awarded an amount of $1,000 each year which will be assigned by the theatre faculty, and the student will be notified of acceptance. If qualified, a student minoring in theatre may receive $250 each year. A student majoring in music and theatre may be asked to select an award from only one of the programs, although dual study programs are encouraged. The student elects the grant amount from the program with the major or the program that offers the greater amount of grant assistance.

For returning students, renewal of the theatre award is based upon continued theatre major or minor study at Carroll and a suitable record of activity and service as determined by theatre faculty.
