About the Communication Program
The goal of the Communication Program is to develop graduates who possess communication competence in both theory and practice. Carroll communication graduates are prepared for careers in a variety of fields, including print and broadcast journalism, social media, health communication, public relations, management and human resources, as well as for advanced study in graduate school.
Cover The Spectrum Of The Field
Communication majors receive a strong foundation in the communication field, developing skills in writing, speaking, research and intercultural communication. Students majoring in communication can focus their expertise in one of the four areas: journalism, public relations, relational communication or liberal arts. Many students complement their communication major with a second major, completing a double major in four years.
Communication majors at Carroll gain knowledge and experience through coursework, internships, volunteer opportunities and participation in campus organizations. We maintain an extensive list of internship placements with both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. Recent internship placements have included the Milwaukee County Zoological Society, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, MetroParent magazine, American Cancer Society, The Milwaukee Bucks, and ABC News.
The flexibility of the communication major allows students the opportunity to study abroad during the junior year in countries such as England and Mexico. In addition, the communication program offers a month-long trip to Thailand, where students develop their intercultural communication skills.
Communication majors are well equipped to make valuable contributions to campus organizations. Our majors routinely participate in organizations such as the New Perspective campus newspaper, WCCX campus radio, Student Senate, Carroll Activities Board, and Lambda Pi Eta, the communication national honor society.
