  Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of major requirements students should:

  1. An understanding of the theories and principles of human communication that will facilitate their professional and personal effectiveness.
  2. Skill in responsible and sensitive communication with diverse others.
  3. The ability to conduct systematic inquiry skillfully.
  4. The ability to develop and convey oral and written messages effectively.

Curriculum

  • Four emphases are offered: relational communication, journalism, liberal arts, and public relations.
  • Students begin courses in the major in the freshman year.
  • As seniors, students participate in the capstone experience, which includes a seminar, comprehensive exam, thesis and an internship or advanced research.
  • Students can earn a bachelor’s degree in communication and complete a second major in four years.

 

Internships

  • Internships often include performing particular communication activities, such as writing news releases, designing brochures and reporting news, as well as analyzing ongoing communication systems.
  • Carroll University’s location near Milwaukee ensures numerous opportunities
  • Examples of past internships include Generac, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Milwaukee Brewers and Milwaukee’s NBC affiliate, WTMJ, Zoological Society of Milwaukee, Miller Lite Ride for the Arts, Milwaukee Home magazine, WMYX-FM and Waukesha Business Improvement District.
