Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of major requirements students should:
- An understanding of the theories and principles of human communication that will facilitate their professional and personal effectiveness.
- Skill in responsible and sensitive communication with diverse others.
- The ability to conduct systematic inquiry skillfully.
- The ability to develop and convey oral and written messages effectively.
Curriculum
- Four emphases are offered: relational communication, journalism, liberal arts, and public relations.
- Students begin courses in the major in the freshman year.
- As seniors, students participate in the capstone experience, which includes a seminar, comprehensive exam, thesis and an internship or advanced research.
- Students can earn a bachelor’s degree in communication and complete a second major in four years.
