Learning Outcomes

Students majoring in Book Art are expected to:

  1. History of book arts:
    1. Students will be able to summarize the key innovations in the history of book making and publishing.
    2. Students will be able to demonstrate the importance of these innovations by articulating the ways in which the history of book making and publishing has influenced social and cultural changes.
  2. Contemporary trends:
    1. Students will be able to demonstrate the ways in which contemporary trends in book making and publishing are utilized.
    2. Students will be able to analyze the significance of these trends and apply this to their own work.
  3. Marketplace:
    1. Students will utilize their understanding of the history of book making and publishing, as well as their knowledge of current trends, to examine the book publishing market and to formulate specific employment-related goals.
  4. Skills and techniques:
    1. Students will be able to speak effectively and articulately about the field of book art.
    2. Students will be able to write effectively and persuasively and edit critically to accepted publication standards.
    3. Students will utilize skills in photography and design in the creation of books.
    4. Students will be able to demonstrate skills in layout and pre-press used in publication or book creation.
  5. International Experience:
    1. Students will be able to interact and communicate effectively in an international setting.
    2. Students will be able to think, work and move across cultural boundaries.
