Volunteers help clean up the Fox River
October 13, 2011
WAUKESHA, WIS.—A group of Carroll University students helped clean up the Fox River for Volunteer Day on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, as part of Homecoming Week activities. The 52 students worked in Bethesda Springs Park, where they removed 35 bags of trash from the river and the park. Some of the trash items found in the river included two bikes, a window air conditioner unit and a shopping cart. The service day was coordinated through Carroll’s Volunteer Center.
Jayne Jenks of the Waukesha County Department of Parks and Land Use said, "It's great to see these young people taking ownership to care for the river. Much of the garbage they pulled entered from the storm drains which deliver water – and anything else from the roadways – straight to our rivers. People can affect our river even if they don’t live close to it."
