Artist T.L. Solien on display at Carroll University
WAUKESHA, WIS.— Renowned artist T.L. Solien will exhibit his work at Carroll University from Feb. 21-March 20, 2010. An opening reception will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, in the Rowe Art Gallery of the Humphrey Memorial Chapel and Art Center, 238 N. East Ave., Waukesha. His gallery talk will begin at 6:45 p.m. in the chapel. The event, and visits to the gallery, are free and open to the public.
Solien has a bachelor's degree in art from Moorhead State University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting and sculpture from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He has had approximately 40 solo exhibitions over the last 25 years, including the recent "T.L. Solien: Myths and Monsters," a 25-year retrospective at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art in Madison, Wis. He has received numerous honors, and his work is included in many corporate and public collections. He teaches art at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Also on display will be an installation project by Professor of Art Philip Krejcarek and student Kate Loehrer. Their photographs of recycled materials will be in the Marceil Pultorak Atrium Gallery. Krejcarek and Loehrer will also be at the reception, and will speak in the Humphrey Memorial Chapel.
Krejcarek's art often combines sculpture and photography. He and Loehrer created a series from discarded or used objects, recycling them as art. Some of the installations address issues of man's effect on the environment. Their work was selected by a jury for an exhibition at the Urban Ecology Center in Milwaukee in October 2010. Krejcarek earned a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He joined the Carroll faculty in 1977. Loehrer is a graduate of Waukesha South High School and a junior photography major at Carroll.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 2-4 p.m.
