Enactus competes at national competition

May 19, 2017

Carroll University's Enactus organization will compete at the National Exposition for the fifth year in a row May 21-23 in Kansas City, Missouri. The group advanced after a successful placement at the regional competition in March.

Enactus is a worldwide organization comprised of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurship to shape a better, more sustainable world. The team is currently at their highest membership with 44 active members. "I am incredibly proud of what our team has accomplished this year," said Manuel Hernandez, President of Enactus. "Our team has been working hard toward our mission of empowering our community and the people around us."

Forty-two other teams from around the Midwest took part in the regional competition; Carroll’s Enactus competed against five of those schools and was ranked as a top team in their league. Teams were judged by business professionals on ability to identify opportunity, actions taken, project progression and empowerment of businesses.

At the competition, five team members had 17 minutes to present their accomplishments from the past year. Presenters included senior Abby Strobel, juniors Manuel Hernandez and Amanda LaLicata, sophomore Adriana Geraci, and freshman Sami Curtis. Additional Carroll Enactus members and advisors attended the conference as spectators to support the students.

Presentations were on projects completed throughout the year such as a Women's Empowerment Initiative, ongoing work with shoe drives for Shoe Box Recycling, their Carroll Wellness Series and the introduction of new projects and partnerships with the Waukesha County Museum and Love Feeds Our World.

Hernandez also adds, "Our presentation team has been phenomenal and we are excited for the chance to compete to be the Enactus National Champion!"
